Biography

Prince Ageel bin Muhammad al-Badr Hamidaddin (Arabic: عقيل بن محمد البدر حميد الدين) is also known as Ageel Al Shami or Yusuf Shami (born London in 1974) is the eldest son of Muhammad al-Badr, the last ruling king of the Yemen and Muhammad al-Shami, by his fourth wife.

Biography

Yemen became a republic following the overthrow of the monarchy in 1962. Since the death of his father in 1996, Ageel bin Muhammad has been the head of the royal Hamid ad-Din lineage. He uses the title Saif al-Islam ("Sword of Islam"), which was formerly carried by the Crown Princes of Yemen.

Ageel bin Muhammed has two sons: al-Shami bin Ageel (born in 1993) and Ahmed bin Ageel (born in 2005).

The prince returned from exile in Saudi Arabia and came to Sana’a on 28 October 2014 at the invitation of the Houthi rebellion after the fall of the capital city during the Shia insurgency in Yemen. He was quoted as saying: "My return to the lands of my fathers and grandfathers came after the September 21 revolution which created a new reality and eradicated the corrupt forces ruling the country.”
