Biography
Ada Clifford Murphy (1859 — 1949) was an American painter and illustrator from New York. She was active in 1890-1930 and painted in a similar style as her husband noted artist John Francis Murphy (1853 – 1921).
Ada Clifford Murphy was born in 1859 in Saratoga, New York. She is a graduate of Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., and also studied arts with painter Douglas Volk.
She was a member of the National Association of Women Artists and National Arts Council.

Personal life
Murphy married artist John Francis Murphy in 1883, and in 1887, they built a home and studio in Arkville, in the Catskill Mountains of New York. In 1886, they took a painting trip to Europe, visiting England, Holland, and France; and in 1924, she painted in Bermuda.
Death
Murphy died in 1949 at the age of 90.
