Biography

Abel Wantner or Wontner (c. 1639-1714) was a "citizen of Gloucester" who prepared one of the first histories of the county of Gloucestershire, the manuscript of which is part of the collection of the Bodleian Library in Oxford. Although his unpublished work was criticised by later historians of Gloucestershire such as Richard Furney and Thomas Fosbroke, that did not prevent them mining it for material.
